Habitat Suites, Austin's award winning "green hotel", generates a portion of its own electricity using 3 photovoltaic (PV) systems that deliver their energy back into the city electric grid. Each system uses a 6000-watt SMA "Sunny Boy" inverter, offsetting electricity usage in the hotel.
In addition, Habitat has solar thermal collectors that preheat the water going into the hotel's regular water heaters, offsetting natural gas consumption for heating water, a major energy use.
